First of all – sorry Susanne, if there is something in your posting I haven’t understood because it was written in German. (Which is totally understandable, because it is difficult of express one self in a foreign language – so, not to worry :-))

My message is:
My experience in the European corporate business world is – men rules!

For seven years I was the President of at trade organisation, in that capacity I was the national representative in a European counterpart.
The European board consisted of nineteen individuals. Three were woman. One was representing an individual company, one was a General Secretary and therefore an employee, and one was en elected President – me.
So, out of nineteen people there was one woman with genuine power.

I am not a feminist, (not a politically correct one anyway :-)), but on the other hand I don’t think the splitting of power between men and woman is fair and equal.
A discussion – “why� would be appropriate ;-))

Till then I would just state the fact, that its an on going discussion and that men is not the centre of the universe – not even when they are painted on the ceiling….. :-)))

That doesn't mean we can just stop because everything is fine today, but maybe we can proceed with a little more optimism. I know a woman who, when she heard I was applying for a job, told me: "You won't get it, they always take men anyway." That thought had never occurred to me during my application. And guess who got the job... That woman is currently writing her dissertation, so she's not one of them who are left behind by men all the time (in the university we both studied at there are unusually many female students AND professors, so the atmosphere is very "equal"). What I want to state by this little story is that women often degrade themselves by assuming they will be overlooked because of men. And because of that attitude they are indeed often overlooked - it's that certain lack of positive radiance that gets them. Men, on the other hand, just assume that they will be successful - and so they are. It's like some kind of self-fulfilling prophecy. (Of course that's very much generalized and simplified, but I think there's some truth in it all the same.) Of course I just can rely on my own experiences, but sometimes I am really sick of that feeling that nothing changed concerning the position of women in our minds - or at least in some peoples minds. I remember a seminar I attended a few month ago and we had to tell our thoughts and feelings about a new campaign for our bank. We were shown some pictures; one of them had a very attractive tall blond woman in its centre. And everything that struck the brains of my fellows: Blondes Gift. I really would have liked to throw up in that moment (sorry for saying it that way), but I got so sick of that stuff. Thinking that we are noch living in the 21. century and you still have to listen to such bullsh-- And in the most cases brought up by women. I really don't get that. @Susanne
