Prof. Miriam Meckel, PhD., (born July 18th, 1967) holds a professorship for Corporate Communication at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, and is the Managing Director of the Institute for Media and Communication Management (since 2005). She is also an adviser for Public Affairs and Business Communication.
She finished Studies in Journalism, Communication Science, Sinology, Political Science and Law in Münster (Germany) and Taipei (Taiwan) as a Doctor of Philosophy in 1993.
1990- 1999 Activities as a TV journalist and news presenter for public and commercial television stations (ARD, VOX, RTL) for almost ten years.
1999 appointment as professor for Journalism and Communication Science at the University of Münster and Managing Director of the Institute for Communication Science.
2001 Appointment as State Secretary at the Department of the Premier of the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia and government spokes woman, later on as the State Secretary for Europe, International Affairs and Media.
Numerous publications and lectures to the topics of Media and Communication Management, the Internet and the Media, Journalism, International Communication, Media Economics.
Miriam Meckel is a member of the German Association for Journalism und Communication Science (DGPuK) as well as the International Communication Association (ICA). Furthermore, she is a member of the advisory board of the international Journal for Journalism "Message", the Journal "Media Management" and the Journal for Policy Advice ("Zeitschrift für Politikberatung").
As a member of the International Jury of the Development Gateway Foundation of the World Bank she has co-developed the Development Gateway Award ("Petersberg Prize", IT for Development), which is awarded annually.
As a member of the advisory board of the German Investor-Relations-Circle (DIRK) Miriam Meckel investigates in Communication and Corporate Perception on Capital Markets.
2001 Miriam Meckel got the Cicero-Speaker Prize in the category of science. 2006-2007 she was the moderator of the TV-talk "Miriam Meckel - Standpunkte" (viewpoints) of the German news channel n-tv. She is a member of the Jury of Deutscher Fernsehpreis ("The German TV Awards").
2002-2005 she was awardee in the "European Asian Young Leaders Forum" of the Herbert-Quandt-Foundation. For 2008 she was assigned the Eisenhower Fellowship of the USA.
She is a Faculty Fellow at the "Berkman Center for Internet & Society" at Harvard University and holds a lectureship at the Hamburg Media School and at the Université de Neuchâtel.
